Good solid build, but you defiantly need a CPU cooler especially if you overclock. Just a heads up, make sure to set your RAM XMP profile to get it's full speed.

I understand, all do, but the stock cooler is garbage. It's loud and will not let you OC very well. Hyper 212 EVO is 30 and one of the best. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

I'll add it to the build, see how it goes moneywise.
Pretty tight with my money at the moment.

RAM- Don't get 4 sticks of 4. Instead, get 2 sticks of 8 so you will be able just to add RAM to the existing when needed instead of throwing it all out and buying 4 more sticks.

CPU- Overkill, unless if you have good reason for it.

Bump the cpu down to a i5 3570K and bring the mobo up to the UD3H.

Or you can get the mobo I have and love if you don't mind ASUS. I have an ASUS P8 Z77-V LK 1155

Also, the RAM is better in two sticks like someone above me said. I would also, reccomend the Hyper 212 EVO if it fits your mobo without hitting your RAM. That was my issue and it was annoying because it took me over an hour and a half to put it on. Anyways, I would reccomend the Benq RL240HT or the ASUS VH236H (I don't know if that is the right model)

Swap board over to an MSI Z77 G43.

Drop down to a 3570k or even an Ivy Bridge i3. Unless you're doing hardcore video editing / professional editing work which would actually benefit from 8 threads, there is no need to spend more for the same performance. Hell, most people who have an i5 will never max it out, well...at least not on here.

Swap the GTX 680 for a 7970/GTX 670. Believe it or not, the 7970 goes head to head with it for the less $$$ and compared to the GTX 670, there is like a 3% difference for a considerable difference in $$$ making it horrible value.

Three problems with the RAM.

- You won't ever exceed an 8GB cap of RAM, never-mind 16GB's. More RAM does not equal more performance unless you're utilizing it all in which no one will unless they're doing something unusual.

- Voltage is a little bit high. Intel themselves directly say to grab a 1.5v kit or lower. Whether or not this applies to Ivy Bridge is unknown but I'd take their word for it and rather be safe. It may indeed void the warranty.

- Speed difference between 1333mhz and 3000mhz is like 1% unless you're using an APU..in which you're not..making it a bad buy. Don't fall for the marketing - ''performance RAM'' - no, just no.

GS series from Corsair? Blah. HIVE series are way more competitively priced. Hell, I've even seen a 650w Seasonic unit with top notch fully modular cables + sleeving for under $100 - there are better deals out there if you look.

As is, 3/10 on a good day.

I forgot to add, this PC is for recording games on high fps, gaming, editing, rendering etc.

If anyone wants to put a list of parts together for a PC to do all the things above, go ahead. Budget for the PC is about 940.

For your instances, the i7 is not ever going to be needed, nor will the 16gb of RAM. Move the CPU down to a 3750k. The RAM can also go down to 2x4gb (8Gb) and you'll have saved yourself a buttload of money that didn't even need to be spent.
