Yes I would imagine you could since the jtag and RGH exploits can succesfully run linux but I would think that you would have to modifiy the system in order for it to do it

would you actual have to modify the system or do you think that 4j studios and mojang wouldn't have to since there code would be signed.

Minecraft on Xbox is not in Java. Its a port, meaning that they had to translate the Java code to C#/C++ for it to work on the Xbox. And the main reason Xboxes can't run Java is because Java runs on a JVM (Java Virtual Machine), which Xboxes don't have a JVM built into it.

interesting, I wonder why they wouldn't have that built in.

They didn't build it in because most games already ran on C++/C#. The Xbox only runs those types of games. C# is like Java in syntax and garbage collecting. Lets just go with, Xbox only uses Xbox games. Java uses Java games. It would be possible that you could install the JVM on the Linux, but then you would only be able to use it on the Linux.

It wouldn't be copyright unless Microsoft said "Java's ours." Java is free, so including it on the Xbox would be no problem.

Enabling jvm would couse a lot of problems as people would be creating exploits that could potentially ruin Microsoft's console business. C/++ is the safest and the most common method of developing and deploying game engines, they kept it this way and I don't think it will change.
