I was also looking at getting a sapphire radeon 7770 but is the cureent one just as good or not better ?

You should get an i5.

Also I'd recommend getting like a 600W PSU.

Swap out the board for a board with a B75 chipset.

A 7770 with the latest drivers will perform marginally better in the vast majority of games compared to the 650.

You don't need an i5 or a 600w PSU - those are both unnecessary.
