i already have a kv. the person who i bought the JTAG from did something with the kv where i cant get online?

Probably to protect it so you can't go online and get banned.
Unless you're on a server or something like XBLStealth you'll just get banned instantly.

so basically id have to mod everything on system link? and couldnt go online to give it to friends?

Contact a service called "XboxLIVEStealth".
They charge about $75/day, $275/week for online on a JTAG and they go through it all with you and help you. You'll also need the latest title updates for every game your gonna be playing online with your JTAG. I'm guessing you wanna mod CoD.
You'll need these title updates (latest).
COD4: TU4
MW2: TU8
MW3: TU23
BO2: TU5/6 (Not sure)
You'll figure out the rest with common sense.
