I would if I used antivirus software but I don't.

i have mcAfee works fine for me

AVG 2013 virus protection first 30 days free then it's a fee but it really takes control of any threats and lets you handle any virus and is a beginner friendly program not hard to use at all!!

P.S: just search AVG 2013 Virus protection on google to get it, also I'm pretty sure there is a way to get it free to!

Answer for Q1:

I personally prefer Malware Bytes as my anti virus. It's light (doesn't slow down your computer as much as others) and very good.

For free, you could try the free edition of malware bytes, or Avast, which is said to be better. Again, they're both very light, and do a very good job at what they do. Highly recommended.

One thing to take note though, I have been looking at the reviews for the new Norton, and it's getting some really good feedback, not to be confused with the older one though.

Answer to question 2:

Yes it is possible to run linux on laptops. In fact, it's recommended for older laptops, as it doesn't demand as much power as other operating systems.

i use malwarebytes for the amti malware software and for my anti virus i use avast free, no need to but one. avast is good because if doesnt slow your computer down. Also on the side get a program called ccleaner (or crap cleaner) so you can manage wha opens up on the boot up of your computer this allows you to be able to boot your computer much faster

I preferred MSE due to its relative ease of use, good design, and tiny footprint, but it has gone downhill: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

It lost AV-Test's certification so I recommend Avast now due to the fact that it tests exceptionally well, has a much smaller footprint than I recall, and it's free. In addition to Avast I use Rkill, SUPERAntispyware, Malwarebytes, TDSSKiller, Hitman Pro, and the ESET online scanner. I've been meaning to make myself a TRK disk (thanks vokal) as well.
