Depends how good your team is...
If you've got an average team then yes he's a decent player, if you want a good team i would suggest as a start John Terry CB English Chelsea You can get him for about 3000k - 4000k and Vermaelen CB Belgium Arsenal For 1500k - 3000k.

I start of with something like buy 2 Gary Cahill For 700 coins each the put them up

buy now 1300
that will almost double your coins straight away (may not sell first time and play games in the mean time)
When you get to about 10k you need to find another player that you can buy cheap and sell for more i choose Theo wallcot but his prices are currently higher than o would buy him for. (If you cant find another player such as wallcot carry on witth Cahill but on a larger Scale.

Thats what i did may take a while but good results.
