Hi, my pc is currently in the basement and I have a wireless adapter in it. The speeds are very slow. There is a cable jack nearby so would I be able to buy a modem/router and get ethernet from there? Would I have to get my isp to come set it up for me? Thanks!

no cable tech needed, if you are on cable you should be able to plug in on the second cable line with you modem and it should work as is seeing as the isp has already white listed your modems mac and config files on the node you are using.

This would be a good thing to get. They're widely used in large hotels and buildings - they give great range for using internet. Obviously, it won't be as quick as a direct plug in to the router, but it's not bad.
