I'm sure throughout this 9 page thread, someone must have already mentioned this, but gun homicide rates in the US are among the highest in the developed world. You can't simply compare any sort of third world countries to the US, as there is much more corruption, greed, to the point where it doesn't matter if guns are removed there or not.
However, let's compare the US to Canada, most of Europe, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, etc, where guns are banned.

The gun homcide rates are exponentially lower in countries that have stricter gun control than the US. It is proven that less guns=less homicides. Is the second amendment really so precious that you are willing to have all these people die in the US every year because of your "rights"? Sure, most should still be allowed, but there is no reason to have these assault rifles, and the US would be a much better place without it.
Japan for example, has one of the lowest gun homicide rates in the world, and it also has one of the most strict gun control laws as well. Just compare all of these developed countries that have strict gun control laws to the US. What I've been hearing a lot is "Guns don't kill people, people kill people". Really? Is that why the gun homicide rates are so much higher in the US? The fact is, someone who is mentally insane should not own a gun in the first place. If a person is mentally disabled enough to decide to kill people, having a gun in the house makes that decision a lot easier. That's why you rarely hear mass shootings happening in these places with strict gun control. Australia, which was also a culture that liked guns, banned guns. Their crime and homicide rates dropped after that.
The last thing I'm going to point out is the whole idea that the US is being run by a tyrannical government. People have been saying that for centuries, so to all of these people that are saying this, it's simply not the case. The idea that "imaginary Hitler" will rise again if they try to take guns away from Americans is absolutely ridiculous. Hasn't happened to other countries, it won't happen to the US. Besides, there isn't enough factual evidence to prove that the US is being run by a tyrannical government in the first place.

Guns are saving thouands of people a year as well. It's those people that concern me the most. Take away guns, those that could have been protected won't be. The black market will always be there, so even if the crime will lower, it's the fact people can still get guns. It's things like the Operation Northwoods plan (that was only stopped by one man), The Gulf Of Tonkin incident, the JFK assassination, 9/11, and 16 million classified documents each year are some things that highly concern me. We being the super power of the world at the moment highly concerns me also.

How is taking away our rights making us more well developed? In my eyes, a society where we can be at peace with freedom to do things that do not harm yourself and others is a well developed society.
It's just these insane idiots that go on rampages killing people that make us look bad. There is no reason to take away weapons because of the wrong doing of a couple people.
You say there isn't enough factual evidence to prove that the US is being run by a tyrannical government, but don't you think that our actions prove us to be a pretty horrible society? I mean we encourage baby murder aka abortions. We are the ONLY country that has ever dropped a nuclear bomb on another country. You can't fight and argue saying that removing weapons will make our society better. It's the people itself that is bringing us down. Not the weapons.

All guns should be banned, they aren't right. The only people who should have guns are those who need them i.e people in war.
Citizens don't need guns.
"Guns don't kill people, people kill people" this is true, and another reason why guns should be banned.

You are an idiot. You've just contradicted yourself in your own sentence stating that it isn't the weapons killing the people, its the people.
Who are you to say we don't need guns? What will you do when someone barges into your house and you have no sort of weapon to protect yourself from them? Criminals WILL get a hold of illegally obtained weapons and you the citizen will stand there defenseless.
I can't believe you just said "citizens don't need guns."

All you'd need if absolutely necessary is a handgun to protect yourself. An arsenal isn't necessary. I do agree with them making them stricter but completely banning them is too far. We've had right to bear arms since 1791 and I'd sure as hell hope to keep them.
Edit: I've read through the posts and you guys are comparing small, docile, dependent countries to a supercountry. Yes, that is a term, I'm not saying America is superior. Don't get your panties in a bunch. Point is, you can't compare a small country whose had these restrictions forever and are already used to the matter to a country that has never had restrictions and has over 315 million people living in it.

What's the difference between a small handgun and an AR-15 which they are trying to ban?
They both shoot one bullet every time the trigger is pulled
One just happens to look more "scary" and people do not know the difference.

-Jiraiya- wroteReally? You're comparing an assault rifle to a small handgun? Damage and size for one. But I'm not going to get into that because it's totally irrelevant to what I posted. The fact is that most Americans want personal defense and pepper spray doesn't cut it when you are being attacked, does it? So what you're saying is that you're pro gun ban? In case you haven't noticed yet, most assailants attacking with a dischargeable weapon don't get it registered from a local pawn shop. It's an ILLEGAL, UNTRACEABLE firearm. You think laws can control that? Lol. I think the government is just trying to use the incidents with the cuckoo people that decided to have a killing spree to trick naive people into thinking that it's totally okay to take away our right to bear arms. It's not. It's like saying "I'm totally okay with letting the school bully take my lunch money and hurt me and I'll never do anything about it.". What's to say that bully won't demand more money one day and decide to REALLY hurt you?VEVO wrote All you'd need if absolutely necessary is a handgun to protect yourself. An arsenal isn't necessary. -Jiraiya- wroteSo your saying adoption is better than abortion? If that is so then I would no want the children to grow up with out a family, and live in an orphanage there whole life. Also, we had to drop the bomb to save millions of live, if we hadnt many more would be dead (Americans and Japanese. It also helped Japan become anti-war and more advance in technology. How is are government corrupt if we are the superpower? Dont you think if it was we would be more like Ireland?Establish wrote I'm sure throughout this 9 page thread, someone must have already mentioned this, but gun homicide rates in the US are among the highest in the developed world.
