ive just finished building my first pc build and when i press the on switch it turns on for 1 second then powers down.
Any ideas why?

That happened to me. It is a short. I put card under my motherboard and it fixed it

Just follow all the cords and check if the CPU supplemental power is plugged in. If everything is plugged in start unplugging added things like ... Gpu or sound card ect...
