My computer (that I built today) is making grinding noises. My HDD isn't fully encased and the top is showing as its refurbished. Could the grinding noise be happening because the HDD has been used a lot today with installing lots of software?

Odds are that a cable is in the way of your gou or cpu fan. Check to make sure the cables are away and not in contact.
I Highly doubt it's the HDD, so check the fans first.

The hd doesn't have to be fully. I had my HDD not fully in and it still worked perfectly.. Op check your wires. do you also have any old parts you put in?

Check that the bearings haven't worn out on one of your fans, Check no wires are touching fans and just make sure all fans are attached to case/hardware correctly and securely.

There are definitely no cables/wires touching fans and the fans are brand new.

Also someone I know who works with computers a lot heard it for himself and said its nothing to worry about and it's just the sound the HDD makes(It may be over exaggerated saying grinding)

When you're performing operations on a hard drive, it will make noise that could definitely be interpreted as "grinding." You can monitor activity and check for problems with [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] .
