I don't usually post topics I just try to browse the forums but I recently noticed a trend that I wanted to get your guys input.
I have always been really into gaming. I really got interested at the release of the original Xbox. Halo was the first game I really started to put time into and it is when I started to actually want to improve my skill. Since Halo I have always tried to be part of the gaming community and be an active member to different gaming forums. I have loved getting others input on their views of gaming and my own.
I have also always been into science. Theoretical Physics to be exact. I am currently attending college at NC State University to get my Bachelors in Physics. The idea of space and what is really out there has really out there that we have yet to discover.
I wouldn't say this is a brand new trend but I have noticed lately that gaming and nerds has become the new trend. With shows like the Big Bang Theory and King of the Nerds getting quite a following. Also there have been many shows that have covered the different aspects of gaming from game design to being a professional gamer. Even the group Anonymous has really sparked the curiosity of people around the world.
I guess you could say something that was made fun of when I was in middle school and high school is now becoming the normal and in some cases becoming cool. I have to say I love this idea as I think that we as a community have a lot to offer to today's society.
I was just wondering what your guys opinion on this subject was and if you look at it as a positive thing or if you think I am totally wrong.
I have put a lot of time and thought into this and any input would be great. Like I said I think this is one of the best communities I have ever come across. Also here is a link that supports most of what I have said.

Gaming has been cool since Atari came out. And really, geeks are only cool throughout guys and some girls. Most girls want a social, free guy.

I really feel through personal experience after high school girls look for guys that have a solid head on their shoulders and can provide for them and a family if it heads that way.
Don't get me wrong there are still those girls out there that just want to party and drink every night but personally that is not a girl I would want to be in a relationship.

Gaming has always been a popular source of entertainment. So I guess that's always been considered pretty cool.
But you're right, I've noticed trends turning; nerds/nerdy things becoming more and more popular. In my honest opinion, I think it's because of the recession and what not. People are slowly starting to realize that the best chance to be financially successful (which is pretty cool) is you need to be smart. And to be smart is to be labelled "nerdy".
I've always been kind of interested in astronomy, though not enough to follow that career path.

I agree, but I'm always hearing of girls breaking up with their boyfriends because of his addiction to Xbox. As addiction to PC goes, I think it is ok if it is as a work aspect. Meaning If you love computers and you want to profess in them, then you should have no shame whatsoever as it benefits you in the future.

That's true I honestly haven't looked at it from the point of view of the recession. The only real money makers these days are athletes, celebrities, and well educated people.
Since the likeliness of meeting or becoming one of the first two the third option becomes your best bet.

Yeah. I guess being cool is relative. I personally think being cool is to be financially successful in an environment which you like. But other people may see swagfags as being cool.
