I don't think I'm allowed to give names of sites, but seeing as torrent programmes are legal, I can give some recommendations.

A good one, personally, is Bit torrent. I used to use Vuze, however recently I've been having problems with it...

uTorrent is small client. I find it doesn't give as high speeds, and can take a while to connect, but doesn't slow down your computer as much. As always, be careful of what you download. Common sense > anti virus.

Not illegal, could be used for legal purposes. So it should be allowed.
uTorrent, the speed can be altered to result in high speeds. I download at 2 GB/s +.
Bittorent
Some P2P programs (Ares, etc.)

Linux:
Vuze

Just google search it. Find many more results.

People will say it's buggy or unstable, but it's never crashed once for me, so I recommend Transmission QT. It's extremely simple, lightweight, and easy to use. My one complaint is that it looks wierd with my theme.

i usually use vuze for the streaming support to my 360 and other devices on my network but for actual downloading i use rtorrent [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] it has a nice webui that you can remote into rather easily and manage from anywhere as well as being rather light weight.

It installs adware. I suggest you uninstall it ASAP and not recommend that people download malware in the future.
