I know that I need a station and a preheater. Thinking about an aoyue and a t-8280 pre heater.

What I want to know is what kind of supplies / other tools do I need to reball. 100 rep point reward for help! Thank you!

Aoyue 852A+ SMD Rework Station works well.

For reballing, you can use you reflow station to heat the GPU until the solder melts and then use a vacuum pickup and just pick the GPU up. Then, once everything has been cleaned and all solder has been removed, you can use a reballing jig and solder balls. Have a look on YouTube because there's a few good videos on reballing. That will give you the general idea of whats involved. When you lift the GPU, you'll clearly be able to see where the mobo goes again. Just make sure it's spot on. Do some more research, though, because you don't want to mess with reballing if you've never even reflowed. Just my opinion.

From what I've heard, reball will last longer but is more expensive. I would go with reball if you don't want to continue to have problems. When you are reflowing a xbox you are using the same unleaded solder as you were before. Reballing you take of the chip and put new unleaded solder on. Personally, I would spend the extra money and go with a reball. However, that is just my opinion,it's up to you.

I would do a re ball for sure. but keep in mind on what consoles you do them on if your doing on a xenon mother board it could last 2-3 years it could last 2-3 months ya never know with them. and a re flow is when you get a heat gun and heat the board up a lot and then it flex's up in the middle where your GPU and CPU are. if you get it hot enough the solder will melt a little bit. but when the board goes back in place most likely soon after it will go down the drain. I you do do a re ball correctly it could last a very long time. Re flows are also very unsafe to other components on your motherboard so be careful when doing what every doing some parts may be sensitive! Hope this helped!
