Alright, so I'm going to make this short and simple, and I'm sure that you've heard this before: You can't get what you want with $300. You have $300 to spend, and you're expecting a computer that can play modern games? No.
However, you can get a laptop for $400 that can play games on low to possibly medium settings. Look for a laptop with an AMD A10 (or AMD A8) APU. This will give you the possibility to play the modern games that you want, with decent settings. Are there a lot options in this price point that are for you? No. But look around, and you'll find some. People are expecting him to get a desktop, when that solution doesn't work for everyone. This forum is too pro-desktop, and they try to force people into something that is not for everyone. There's a reason why laptops outsell desktops.
So, for $400, here are some laptops on that could work. I don't suggest going on Ebay.

Sony-XT wroteSpectateHD wrote On eBay I'm sure there are some. No, there aren't. Laptops are not capable of playing games on good settings. They're not good anyway, they only have like one 30mm fan, PC's have loads of fans. Laptops will most likely overheat if playing games. You would be best custom building a PC. You will definitely NOT find a laptop to play games on good settings, especially if you're only spending $300.
Ok well saying Laptops are not capable of playing games on good settings is wrong. Because i have the MSI GT70 and i can max out Battlefield 3 on ultra at 50-60 Fps with no problem. it plays any game i throw at it. so your wrong.

OP won't be getting one that can for 300, however.
