when u mod ps3 games does the game have to be on the disc or can it be downloaded from the store

im trying to mod cod4 mod menu because i know i have done the steps right because when i go into a gamemy classes are supposed to be colored but when i start it up in a private the mod menu doesnt pop up

Usually it doesnt matter, do the opposite of what you have been doing and see if that works.
