Yes, you can have your emblem deranked. Tallies are just how many days you have played, you'll get one for each day you play and lose one for every day you don't play. The emblem shows how good you are. If you play really good for a while, you'll go up. But say you get to the shotgun rank and start playing badly, you may go down if you keep it up for too long. All in all, the emblem is a live reflection of your skill

I've been deranked multiple. Not from cheating or anything, but because I went a certain amount of time without playing. That's what I hate about Zombies, but I guess that's how you can tell if someone's brought their A-game.
