Mostly from another forum I go to, with a little editing/censoring managed to fit most of it on here.

Content:
1. The Shotgun
A lot of people think that a shotgun is magically a close-range only weapon, and only effective at about 5 feet. Wrong wrong wrong WRONG. Movies and s**t also COMPLETELY ignore the fact that MOST, if not all hunting shotguns/Civilian shotguns are RIFLED and fire SLUGS, not SHOT. CAPS.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
A shotgun using shot (bird or buckshot) is still lethal for quite a ways (otherwise how the fu** would you shoot birds with it), and keep in mind that it's a long-barreled gun, it really isn't a CQC weapon. Even "militarized" shotguns don't behave in this manner. You MIGHT be able to achieve that effect if you cut down the barrel on a break-action shotgun, but it'd have to be so short the goddamn thing would break off your hand, and that leads us to #2:

2. "Sawed Off Shotgun"
I swear, these are in movies all the time, and I can't possibly fathom why, they look ridiculous. In real life, they're even more ridiculous than in a movie. If you've ever shot a 12-Gauge shotgun, you'd know that it puts out enough kick to do some damage to your shoulder, and is loud as shit. Take off the stock and saw down the barrel, and congratulations: You've created the ultimate wrist-snapping arm-breaking machine. A shotgun is pretty damn hard to fire without a stock, but the barrel puts weight on the front of the gun, which reduces the kick. You've got nothing stopping that gun from sending your hand to the moon.

3. Pulling the slide back on a handgun.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

This is a Beretta M9, 9mm handgun. It's one of the most common and most reliable pistols in the world, and is the current standard issue sidearm in the Marine corps, replacing the Colt 1911, and typically the primary US police handgun (I believe it is now replacing Glock). It's also a primary hero gun in movies, example being John McClane in DIE HARD. What really bugs me, is when they reload the gun, and feel the need to pull the slide back for cinematic effect. That actually ejects a cartridge, and in those cases, it ejects an unspent one. You see, when you fire all the ammo in your handgun, the slide locks back, exposing the chamber. This means the gun is empty and to reload before your ass gets shot. After ejecting the mag and putting in a new one, you press the slide release, which pushes the slide forward and chambers a new round. The only reason you'd need to pull the slide back AGAIN is if you were retarded enough to push the slide release before entering a new mag, and what's funny is that the slide isn't easy to pull back, the springs they put inside of a handgun have to resist the explosive force of the gun being fired repeatedly. This whole maneuver wastes precious seconds.

4. Kevlar/Flak Jacket
Another stereotype is that a Kevlar vest is like that armor Frodo wears in lord of the rings. It's not. Kevlar is not mithril, it is not indestructible, it will not save your ass on a regular basis. Kevlar vests are made as extra protection from small arms fire and shrapnel. That's all. That means a vest will not protect your ass from a .44 Magnum, a .50 Desert Eagle, and especially not a 5.56 or 7.62 rifle cartridge. Police wear them because it's VERY uncommon that a perp will have anything larger than a .45 or 9mm. Oh, and it only protects your chest, so if you get shot in the arm...

5. It's only a flesh wound/remove the bullet
...You might be f****d. Just generally, you don't want to get shot ANYWHERE. Bullets do a lot of damage, small arms fire can get burrowed in your system, and larger weapons can take off limbs or fingers. However, many people think that getting shot in the arm or leg is safe because it's just meat and bone. That's untrue. Your upper thighs are a nexus of arteries and veins, one bullet there can cause you to bleed out (getting your d**k shot off can cause you to bleed out ultra-fast). Same goes with your arms, but on a lesser scale, however your arms are chocked full of nerves n s**t. Scientists say the best place to get shot is your a**, because there's very little blood flow there, it's primarily fatty tissue. Oh, and remove the bullet? No. The bullet usually blocks some of that blood flow. Yes, what you just got shot by might be the only thing keeping you alive. Some surgeons don't even remove bullets because in certain places they are keeping the victim alive, or in other places they're perfectly harmless, and don't warrant surgery.

6. Knife is ultimate silent ninja weapon
Imagine you want to kill someone, and quietly. There's guards lurking around, and this one guy stands in your way. Immediately, your thought goes to your knife. You sneak up behind him and plunge the knife into his throat, covering his mouth with your hand, laying him down silently after he's done flailing.
THIS WOULD NEVER HAPPEN.
Firstly, imagine how much blood is in your body right now.
How about this much? Nah try: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Plus a bit extra. Now, also imagine your neck is the autobahn of blood, there's a s***ton of blood in there, constantly moving. NOW imagine pouring out those liter bottles, one bottle at a time. It makes a decent amount of noise. So maybe you manage to cover up the squirting mess (make no mistake, it will be ejected from his throat), then you're fine right? Well considering bad guys aren't all f*****g retarded, they would have heard him screaming (or if you cut his trachea, his throat going HHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGH), and finally, you have to catch a fully grown man (average weight of a male is like 250+, plus all that equipment) and his gun. and he's going to fight back, or shoot off that gun. PLUS, not all stab wounds are lethal: A marine in Iraq was stabbed in the skull with a 12-inch blade and didn't even know it until someone told him). It's pretty god damned difficult, it would be easier to use a suppressed weapon...

7. Suppressors (silencers)
...Not really. Possibly every misinformed person who has ever seen an action movie thinks that suppressors change a loud gunshot into a tiny "pew". This is far from the truth. There's a reason they're not called silencers in the real world, you know. They barely lower the volume of sound (I think it's only by like 30 decibels). The actual function of SUPPRESSORS is to SCATTER the sound and cover any muzzleflash. Scatter the sound? Well, it's like this:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
When you fire a gun, it's pretty easy to tell where the sound came from; the direction, that is. With a suppressor, it disguises the sound, AND scatters it, so it's much harder to pinpoint:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
A gun makes a very distinct noise, but the application of a suppressor can disguise it as something else entirely;
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
(I own this book)
It discusses the practical application of suppressors, and in one instance, someone used a rifle with a suppressor during a storm to disguise the noise as thunder (in this instance he was shooting branches off of a tree). It's not a magical sound-eating device, and some suppressors can't actually be fired more than once.

8. Akimbo weapons
If you've ever played airsoft, you know how ridiculously hard it is to shoot someone with a pistol. Your shots seem to land everywhere except your target, and most times you don't even have time to use the ironsights, you're being f***ing shot at. So double your firepower, it's better right? No, no, no and no. Do you ever see marines with two USP .45's? No. Do you ever see a cop holding two M9's? No. Do you ever see anyone. other than in movies, use two pistols at once? No. That's because it's pretty damn hard to aim one handgun in battle, and out of battle, one bullet is enough stopping power anyway. Holding two guns is added weight and more difficult aiming. That's about it, it just makes it harder to shoot accurately at the benefit of looking cooler if you're wearing a trenchcoat.

9. No one hunts with handguns
I see this less, but it seems absurd to most people that hunters hunt with handguns. I mean, handguns are small an-
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
That is a S&W .357 Magnum with a mounted telescopic scope, and no, it isn't tactic00l. My father has hunted before with a scoped handgun, and not small game either. A .357 slug puts out a decent amount of force, enough to bring down a buck with a good shot.

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS:

CLIP VS. MAGAZINE
There is nothing more annoying than this:
Hey how much does your clip hold I got like 12 rounds in my clip you might need to reload your clip
STOP. STOP RIGHT THERE.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Holy mother of god:
A stripper clip is used to load a magazine, typically of WW2-era automatic rifles like the M1 Garand. A magazine is the box that holds the ammunition before firing. Some guns have built-in magazines (again, WW2-era rifles), but all magazines accomplish the same thing: They hold ammo. Stripper clips are just like airsoft speedloaders, they only load a magazine.

10. Magnum = Revolver
No, again. No and no and no until there is no more left. Let me introduce you to the difference between a cartridge and a gun: A cartridge goes IN the gun. A revolver is NOT a magnum. Repeat after me:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
THIS IS NOT A MAGNUM.
Magnum is a type of cartridge, usually a large-caliber high-power cartridge; Most commonly the .357 (which is simply a more recent version of the .38 Special cartridge). The .357 magnum cartridge is designed specifically for S&W .357 revolvers, most commonly a Model 686. The Sig Sauer P226-9 series of handguns all fire (more accurately, can be chambered in) .357, but it's .357 SIG, not magnum. "Oh, but that IS designed for a revolver durr hurr!" Well, yes, it is, but that's not the only example of a magnum firearm: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Meet the Accuracy International AWM Sniper Rifle. It chambers in .338 Lapua Magnum.

Smith and Wesson are very well known for their Revolvers, they're some of the best in the world (Competing with Winchester, Ruger and Colt), which is why the magnum name has been associated with revolvers.

11. MW2 AK-47/AK-47 in general
dood mw2 has sick ak with rails n s**t dog
Shut the f**k up sweet jesus.
Now see this:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
This is how glorious Kalashnikov is. It's a beautifully crafted, very excellent weapon. It's balanced, reliable, comfortable, and the wood treatment makes it sexy as hell. The problem is that it's only used by s***hole countries because they're pretty easy to get. The US doesn't use them because they're Russian, and while the AK was being produced, we were heading into the cold war(AK-47 stands for Avtomat Kalashnikova 1947. The first AK series weapon was the 46, which was replaced by the 47, which had a fixed stock). The Russians sold their creations to other countries, s**t went down, and the black market flooded with them. Technically, most AK-47's you find in America aren't even Russian, they're typically Chinese (Norinco and PolyTech are the most common as far as I know). Now down to business:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
I literally can't even find the name of the model that the MW2 AK-47 is based on. I could say it looks like an AK-107, but that's not entirely accurate. Point is: The AK-47 is MW2 is some s****y knockoff AKM with synthetic s**t on it, and it looks like s**t. In real life it'd probably break.

Now, moving on, most AK-47's you see in media aren't even model 1947's, most of them are AKM (M stands for Modernized). They were improved versions of the AK-47, and I believe they are even more common. Oh and the AKS-74u? Protip: S stands for "sliding". It refers to the sliding/folding stock. There are AKS-47's, but the most popular is the AKS-74. The AK-74 (model 1974 if you haven't caught on) was an AK model that chambered a much smaller 5.45, instead of the usual 7.62. It's an adaptation of the AKM model, which actually results in a more accurate gun, but you lose the awesome power of the 7.62 round, but that generalization I just made leads us to our next one:

12. BIGGER BOOLETS
A common misconception is that guns need a big round to be effective. Let me tell you right now that is completely untrue. A 9mm pistol cartridge is enough to bring down an average man. The pain from being shot is so blinding, any assailant should cease after being put down by that. Here's a Police Officer giving a description:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
It all depends on a huge variety of factors, but typically you don't need some massive .44 Magnum or an assault rifle to combat a person. A hollowpoint 9mm or .45 both have enough stopping power to take a person out.

13. MACHEEN PISTOELS
I can't even begin to describe how unbelieveably STUPID and MISINFORMED a person has to be to think a fully automatic handgun is a good idea. Note that "Machine Pistol" is technically a proper term for Submachine Gun (SMG's were called Machine Pistols back in the day), even "MP5" stands for Machine Pistol [model] 5. What I'm talking about is mainly the Glock 18c. If you've ever fired a gun you'd know it's pretty hard to control multiple shots in a row. With a machinegun, which is a full sized rifle, it's still pretty goddamn hard; This is why they say to use controlled bursts. Considering this, the fully-automatic pistol is the worst idea in history. It's f***ing hard to control rifles, much less a handgun that spits out bullets like no other. Mainly, you've got the ridiculous recoil pushing your hand up above your head, considering you don't run out of ammo after 2 seconds. There's absolutely NO REASON for this. There is literally no scenario where this is a good idea compared to all of the alternatives. HOWEVER, the Beretta 93R (R means raffica, which means burst in Italian) fires in SHORT CONTROLLED BURSTS. This would potentially be a good idea but that maxim is applied to carbines and assault rifles, not f***ing handguns. These are such bad ideas that the 93R isn't even in production anymore and the G18c was designed on request from EKO Cobra ( [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] .

14. Auto Shotguns
Auto shotguns are mostly only present in CS:S and CoD. They're not that common in the real world for the same reason an automatic pistol isn't. A shotgun produces a lot of recoil with one shell, firing 12 of them in rapid succession is a good way to dislocate your arm (unless you're firing a 20-gauge). Semi-automatic shotguns, however, are only really popular in the civilian world. Shotguns don't really have a place in the military, except for door breaching (overseas we have charges for that, in the states we have door breaching shotguns). Reason being is that a rifle is more efficient than a shotgun in nearly every way in battle. If you read above, you'd realize why a shotgun isn't that good of a weapon. Now make it fire 30 rounds per second and you've got a sweet money-burning gun. Now, the reason semiauto shotguns are popular in the civilian world, is for target shooting. Go Google Tom Knapp, he's the spokesman for Benelli shotguns, and one DAMN FINE shot. Actually I'll do it for you: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] Benelli produces exclusively civilian shotguns, both semi automatic and pump action. In summary: YOU WILL NEVER SEE ANY SELF RESPECTING SERVICEMAN USING AN AA-12 BECAUSE IT'S A GIGANTIC MONEY WASTING PIECE OF S**T.

15. XM-8
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Meet the XM-8 Infantry Assault rifle. It's very cheaply produced, comes in 5.56, and uses the same type of magazine as the G36c. It was being developed by both The United States Army and H&K. If you know H&K, you'd know they make some good s**t. Anyway, it was being developed as a cheaper, more lightweight assault rifle that would replace the M4 or M16 in the military. It had a built-in reflex sight as well. So what's the problem?

You see, the XM8 was a gutted G36, all of its internals were virtually the same, and even the exterior design looks a lot like a G36. It uses the same mags, and even has the exact same mag release switch. The problem was that it was made out of s***ty materials, and some craaaaaaazy stuff happened, like the gun melting. The project was never completed, it was put on hold like Duke Nukem Forever and eventually abandoned. Now, it's just the butt of gun jokes. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

16. Intervention
After the previous XM-8 catastrophe, you'd assume that I'm about to say the same about the Intervention?
Not really, the Cheyenne Tactical M-200 Intervention is one of the finest Sniper Rifles ever created. The problem I find is that people have no f***ing clue just how ballsy it is. In MW2, it's a decent gun, but in real life it's so much cooler. It fires a .408 CheyTac, a massive round that's designed specifically to haul a** downrange and put an end to whatever it slams into. The bullet was designed to be as aerodynamic and low-drag as possible, perfectly balanced, and designed ONLY to be used by this rifle system. That's not even the best part: The actual Intervention has a built-in ballistics computer, weather tracker, and rangefinder which all connect to a PDA system to accompany this bad boy.

17. Cover Vs. Concealment
So you're a cop, patrolling around, doing cop things, and you get into some trouble; Some crazy b****rd is shooting at you. What do you do? Well you'd probably say to open the car door and duck behind it, use it for cover, right? Well a bullet goes whizzing through the air, and punches a hole through that door. You're dead.
WHAAAAAAT?
Well lets ignore the fact that no officer anywhere uses the car door for cover, EVER, and discuss how thin a car door is. It's basically a sheet of flimsy metal, some fiberglass, and a few other bits and pieces. Anything above a small, low-velocity round will go straight through, bam and you're dead. In-fact, they teach police officers to put the ENGINE BLOCK between them and the shooter, because it actually provides cover, and engine block will stop a bullet. What about a desk? Well considering its a piece of wood, that's an even worse idea. Well what about a wall in your house, thats legit right? It's a wall! Well no. Drywall is extremely weak, you can actually punch through it if you try hard enough. This is where we draw the line between COVER, something that actually stops a bullet before it can hit you, and CONCEALMENT, something meant to hide you but not necessarily protect you. A bullet will punch through most solid materials, so the general rule of thumb is "put tons of objects between yourself and the shooter". Brick walls can stop most rounds, so that's fairly safe, but car interiors, drywall, furniture, or a bar are not legitimate cover locations. Even tipping over a table in a place is a bad idea unless the table was manufactured to withstand being shot and lined with Kevlar.

Well that's it, hopefully it knocks some sense into some mw2 fans and this thread lasts more than 10 minutes.

everything you have said is 100% true. a 12 gauge shotgun (my dad owns one and a glock 17) both have recoil. especially the 12 gauge. the glock was made not to have as much but ive shot two of them at a time. not very easy.. i didnt even hit a target. a sawed off shotgun with no stock... i couldnt even imagine it.. especially 2 of them.. thats just. it does make you feel cool when you shoot two pistols at once though

and lots of people know the difference between a bullet and a cartridge. bullets just easier to say..

i wish mw2 was like real life. hardcore kinda is. but bullet penetrations are stupid. +repped for proving people are stupid. lol

and ive always said shotguns should have alot more range especially since the AA12 has a kill range of about 200 meters.
