I would buy the Samsung Galaxy S3. By far the fastest and most reliable smart phone I have used. I would stay away from a iPhone because its way overpriced.
Stay with a Android. They are the best.

I have the Evo 4g LTE as I've been a fan of the Evo phones since the og Evo 4g. Sprint exclusive phone though, even though Sprint sucks ass... Any of the phones from HTC are pretty good, though the Sense kind of lags it up a bit despite it looking pretty cool. Just root it and install a Sense-less rom if it becomes a problem, though I've had no problems personally with Sense. I would also recommend the S3 as I've messed around with my friends phones and they are good as well.
Basically so long as you don't buy an iPhone you should be happy with whichever device you get.

I would personally say the Galaxy Nexus. It has been up-to-date with all versions of Android and it is a fast phone. If you are wanting a pure Google experience on all carriers, a 4.5" screen, and a great priced phone; I would recommend the Galaxy Nexus. I have had mine for a year now.
