Since Microsoft might make the move to digital, why not make the console so that other distributors of games, such as Steam, Origin, Gamestop, Walmart and BestBuy, can all sell their games directly through the Xbox? A seller who distributes games, with Microsoft's approval, can sell to the public through Xbox Live. This would be great, as you would no longer need to get out of your house to buy a game, and there would be increased competiton, and better pricing on games (like what happened with PC and digital downloading services).

No, you don't understand. See, the Xbox would still have a disk drive, and you can still go to the store and buy physical copies of games. The selling of other games by retailers online allows Microsoft to make more money, as this will entice people to spend more on Xbox Live in general, and use it more. It allows the developers to reach out to a wider audience. Infact, Microsoft could command a certain percentage of all store profits.

Steam is releasing there own console within the next few months, so I highly doubt they would do that.
