I've been looking up how to lucid dream and it seems pretty confusing.. I want to teach myself how to so how did you begin lucid dreaming?

Here's what I did to teach myself. Do something before you go to bed that's consistent. For instance I drew a dot on my pinky finger with a sharpie every night, about 2 hours before I wanted to fall asleep. I kept looking at the dot every 5 minutes to make sure it was still there, do this every 5 minutes until you decide to be still and fall asleep. Making sure the dot is still there is telling your mind that you're still awake and you have to do this for days until it's normal to you that the dot is there. Every time you enter a dream, check your pinky. If the dots not there your mind will register that it isn't right because you're so used to the dot being there. This will allow you to realize that you are dreaming, realizing this allows you to modify the environment how you like. Once you get to be an expert at this you can literally live a completely different life every night, drive sports cars, do crazy stuff. Everything is in major detail once you get good at it, seems like it's just reality but you can control every little thing. It's your own world.
