PGN, do me a favour and add this tutorial to the front page of the topic somewhere? It's a tut to fix the 3194 error without the need to restore.

FIRST CLOSE iTunes and download your iOS file from RedmondPie. Just go onto Google and search "RedmondPie iOS <Insert iOS Here>".
Step 1: Open notepad (or the mac equivalent)in admin mode (again, the mac equivalent).
Step 2: File=>Open then navigate to this path C:\windows\system32\drivers\hosts. (On mac I believe you can just search for "hosts" and it will find it).
Step 3: Add this line to the bottom of the hosts file: 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Step 4: Save the file and then re-open iTunes.
Step 5: Go to your iPod in iTunes and then hold Shift+click Update (I'm not sure for the shift equivalent for the mac. Doing this will ask you to select a firmware file, use the one you have downloaded).
Step 6: Enjoy your updated iPod without the need to restore.

Nice one, I couldn't be bothered to make a new topic on it. It needs to be put out there as I saw somebody tell someone restore to fix the error -_-
