help! everyone is saying intel but amd are a lot cheaper and hopefully as good

remember this is a BUDGET gaming pc

650 pounds is hardly 'budget' gaming. You should take an Intel i5 3570K, no doubt.

the PC im on now cost me about 600gbp and its got a
i5 3570k
asus p8 z77v LX motherboard
8gb of ram (forgot who made it)
700watt corsair PSU
120gb SSD
2x 2TB WD HDD
660 ti (i got a great deal on that tho)

That 7870 is more of a 7930 than a 7870 because it is the XT version, which uses Tahiti silicon (like the 79XX series) and performs much better than its competitors.

in total it cost me 650ish but I got lucky and scored a 660ti for 100 pounds

Unless you wanted to overclock, you will notice nearly zero performance gain with a 3570k over a 3470.
