I'd say custom pc because you can add a lot more to it and it's a lot better if you really want to customize it to your likings... Alienware is good but I would have to say that Custom Pc's are much better.

Insert_Name wrote IF you want a pre-built laptop for GAMING at a decent price. ASUS has some nice ones out there. I am VERY happy with mine so far.
No exaggeration when I say my ASUS laptop has better specs and cost $1000 less than Alienware.
If you want to waste $1000 on some shiny light filled case then go with Alienware.
If you're a normal person, you'd go with the custom instead.

Alienware are like any other company - they're just trying to make money.
Are they "bad"? No. Are there better options? Yes.
Building a computer is better simply because you know what's going into it. If you choose to do so, only very high quality products go into the machine. You can therefore insure that you have a very well built computer, and it's tailored to your needs.
For example -
If you're a video editor, and you use adobe programmes, it'd make much more sense to build your own because you can put in CPU's and GPU's that'd dramatically increase performance and speeds of rendering etc, instead of being limited to what you can buy as a pre built.
Don't get me wrong, you can customise your alienware machine, but not to the extent of a prebuilt.
In fact, there are more options to buy a single CPU for a computer than there are different combinations of builds for a whole computer bought from Alienware.
That's just my view on it. I personally don't have the money to spend 800 quid on alienware. I have built one for around 400 GBP and it does everything I need and want it to do.
