The DVDkeys won't match so the drive won't function at all.

Without the original DVDkey, it's impossible to flash the drive to make it work either. You'd have to RGH the Xenon to get the DVDkey then un-RGH it and flash the key onto the new drive to make it work.

Nope, it has to match the original one permanently implanted into the motherboard. All of them are unique.

If you can't get the drive you can always send it to someone in the marketplace section: Forums/f=187/xbox-360-marketplace.html and see if they can RGH it for you to get the DVDkey and send it to you.
