I am doing my first build, it is on a budget. I just wanted to check to see if the PSU I am considering has a decent reputation. If anybody has any experience or anything.
The PSU is the Corsair CX500
I don't need any recommendations about wattage as this is ample, but I just wanted to know if there are any hidden disadvantages I missed.

No I have a cx430 in my system and it runs a treat also if the 500 is to much save a few pounds/dollars and get the cx430. The psu has a very good recommendation level all round, most if not all corsair PSU's have good rating and reviews. They are quite and work well.

The PSU is fine, it's non-modular so the spare wires look messy and are a pain. That is a bad point about it.

Ok I will take that into account, also my system is estimated at 400W if I went for the 430W would that be enough over head?

Build is:
i3 3220
gtx 650 ti power edition
kingtson beast 8gb ram (2 kit)
asrock h77m
Seagate barracuda 1tb
zalman z9
I know its not a power house build but I am on a tight budget.

Don't worry dude I was on a tight budget for my system it is similar to this. "May I suggest a motherboard that is a little bigger and cheaper?
Asus P8H61-MX R2.0 Motherboard
It will just be easier to asemble and the graphics card will look better on it and it will do the job just as good and the i3 is a h61 chipset not h77 ;)"
Acctually don't worry about that I was wrong that board supports the i3-3220  just make sure you pick up the micro ATX and not the mini itx, there we are fixed now i look
But yes the cx430 will run that one fine.
My system just to put mind to ease:
i3-3220 3.3Ghz
4GB corsair RAM (4 to be added v/soon)
1GB Gigabyte HD7770
500GB Seagate 3.5"
MSI H61M-P31-G3 Motherboard
Corsair cx430
Fractal design core 1000 case.
Hope this helped.

I'm going to contradict what has been said and recommend the Antec VP-450 instead: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
The CX series is nothing special and the base unit is mediocre. Don't get me wrong, they're worth looking at for the price (the CX430, at least), but there are simply better PSUs out there. The VP-450 IS something special because it's an incredibly high-quality unit for cheap. If you look at the overload testing, you'll see that it's overbuilt like most Antec units.

As for the RAM, I wouldn't suggest it. Instead, you could get the i3 in a combo with a better kit: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
This board should also be cheaper but serve the same purpose: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
