PrivateSoldier wroter00t wrotei have just tried different connectors and the 2 sata cables that were suplied with the motherboard..,PrivateSoldier wroter00t wrotePrivateSoldier wroter00t wrotePrivateSoldier wrote its a new hard drive , and how do i format if i dont have windows? can i do that in the bios
please anyone help , this is my first time building and i really dont want to spend another 60euros on a hard drive :/
You need a Windows disk or drive to install Windows and before you install, you have to format the drive. You will be prompted to do so during the process. The sound you're hearing should be the drive spinning up at startup, which is normal. You can't boot into Windows without first installing it!
i am booting windows 7 from usb, and when im setting up there is no hard drive to format
Does the drive show up in the BIOS and boot priority order? Have you set the SATA control mode to AHCI? Other options are RAID and IDE.
it does not show up in the bios, the only boot device that shows up is my usb
SATA Control is on AHCI , i have tried to boot with IDE too but still nothing
It sounds like you got a defective drive. You should check a few other things before submitting an RMA request, though. Have you tried plugging the drive into other SATA connectors? Have you tried other cables?
is it normal that the hard drive can't read but just power up? does this often happen to people?
I have a few drives that have that problem. They power up fine, but are not recognized by the BIOS. Mine all showed symptoms of failure before they stopped working, though and I've never received a DOA (dead on arrival) product myself. I don't know the exact DOA rate for hard drives, but they have higher rates across the board compared to other components because there's a lot that can go wrong with them. Luckily they're fairly easy to troubleshoot because you can easily eliminate the cables and controllers as being the problem.
