cil wrote Get windows 7. Windows 8 is TERRIBLE. It's a disgrace of an operating system. It would work best on tablets, not computers. Not everyone is 8 years old. Windows 7 all day every day.

Well you obviously dont know the slightest thing about the operating system.

Windows 8 is compatible with almost every game today, in most cases there is actually a performance increase by up to 10% due to their new streamlining of background tasks.

Sure there is a learning curve to the OS, but, with a few tweaks for the desktop (google stardock for win8) you can have all of the benefits of windows 8 without any of the downfalls.

Personally I would go for win8 because it is the operating system that software/game designers are going to build their games around and you will most likely see performance increases.

To all the Windows 8 haters, please go and google: "windows 8 for gaming" and tell me after you read the hundreds of articles with positive connotations that windows 8 is a failure of an operating system. Because as of now, you are just spewing your garbage opinions.

Hope this helped you out OP

Windows 7 all the way. Windows 8 was designed mainly for touchscreen devices.

If you making your own PC from scratch I would suggest windows 7 64-bit OEM. The reason for OEM and not a retail copy is because its cheaper, however it does lock the license to your mother board so you wont be able to use the windows 7 on other computers. But I don't see a problem with this because you will rarely change your mother board on a new build. Finally the reason to go for windows 7 for the time being, is not because windows 8 is 'bad' like everyone says, It's because it's a more stable OS for the time being.
