Did you remove the CPU itself? or just the "locket"?

the locket hooks back on to the hing where it originally was. and for the heatsink just apply a pea sized circle of thermal compound and press it down on the cpu socket and screw it into place and of course hook up and cables, it's pretty simple.

Just to get this straight, did you remove the CPU and the socket which it is entered into?
For clarification the socket is the plastic assembly fitted to the motherboard.

Oh okay thats fine. Best thing to do if you haven't already is to rescrew that socket back onto the motherboard and check to see if when you unscrewed it, that the CPU backplate didnt fall off (as that secures it from the otherside)
If thats all rosy, refit the heatsink assembly and make sure the CPU fan is plugged into the header on the mobo as failure to detect that will auto shutoff a system

It honestly could be a number of things as the sockets really arent supposed to come off. Does any of the system power on? try looking for any LEDs on the motherboard as it will show when the system is on standby etc. if nothing is happening at all that could indicate the CPU may not be seated correctly or that when the socket was removed part of the motherboard is damaged.
