I'm sorry but that is not the case.
If you are getting half of the total memory which would be 1.5GBs that means it's picking up both slots.
From my understanding in dual channel it has to be both the same memory like the board specifies. From what I've personally learnt, there is no other way about it.
2x1GB=2GB 2x2GB=4GB(64 bit only) Board specifications> [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Did you check the memory before replacing the case etc?

No it doesn't .He has a total of 3GB of RAM, One 1GB stick and One 2GB stick !! Both ram sticks work ! We no this because we tried bot sticks in the same slot and both worked and booted But if we plug any ram in the second slot it beeps !!! meaning the second slot is defiantly broken.

That's okay, as long as you know what the problem is.
I still can't understand how it was achieving all 3GBs before, it does not make sense.
