look into rooting, that gives you root access to the phone (root is basically linux lingo for admin)

What exactly do you want to do with your 'jailbreak'?

If it's illegally downloading APK's (which I don't endorse) then you can do that right off the bat.

If you root your phone (gain total access essentially) then you can do other nifty stuff like overclock and muck around and make a custom gui/layout.

Rooting is the way to go, but if you are like me, and have the HTC Droid DNA, the bootloader , (in simple terms is a thing you need to unlock to root it) is currently locked by Verizon Wireless. In the topic you said "HTC", if I knew which model you had I would direct you to where you can root it if you don't have the Droid DNA. Otherwise just check [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

An Android phone out of the box is basically a jailbroken iPhone. You can root your phone though, which gives you power to install custom ROM's (CM, AOKP, etc), remove carrier bloatware, backup all of your apps (Titanium Backup), remove ads, overclock, etc.
