PROCESSOR 2nd Generation Intel Core i7-3820 (10M Cache, Overclocked up to 4.2 GHz)
OPERATING SYSTEM Windows 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English
MEMORY 16GB (4 X 4GB) Quad Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
VIDEO CARD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 690 4GB GDDR5
HARD DRIVE 500GB SS Hybrid MAIN + 1TB 7200RPM Storage
SOUND CARD Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio
OPTICAL DRIVE Single Drive: Dual Layer Blu-ray Reader (BD-ROM, DVDRW, CD-RW)

Basically I want to know if its a good build and how long it will last me running high-ultra settings before I have to upgrade again.

That's going to be future proof for quite a while. Rough guess 5 years maybe.

Thanks for the response. That was a Pre-built pc for $2700. I found this build that someone else on TTG posted and its $1500 and these are the specs. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Which would be the better buy?

Hey man, thats my build and it is really good and quite future proof because you can just add another 7970 to it eventually although i would say go for the core i7 3770k instead of the i5 if youre going to do that, btw never buy pre built heres a system that has similar specs to that prebuilt but i guarantee its going to be better: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] although i dont suggest the 690 id suggest either a dual 7970's or a Titan or what i really recommend 2 680 4 GB edition this will be OUTSTANDING here are builds with those:

dual 7970's: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Titan: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
SLI 680 4 GB edition: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

you may notice these are similarly priced to the prebuilt but its because i gave you a liquid cooler, chose a top of the line motherboard, higher clocked RAM, the Ultimate case, better GPU's and a very reliable, modular Power supply and the whole system is Republic of gamers colours Red and Black and if you put the corsair h100i LED to Red this system will look soooooo good.

Get that build, but if you want to improve it get yourself an i7 3770k, you could also get a GTX 690 but that seems kind of pointless at this point, although it would be more future proof.
