Slow memory. You could have saved money by getting a phenom and cheaper motherboard, which would have allowed you to get a graphics card.

Nah, you could fit a 7770 in a $500 budget. APU is best for <$400 builds

I think its better to save money for more than a 7770 since it only has 1 gb of ddr3, the 5800k can handle alot more than a 7770

Not going to make a difference with a 7850, let alone a 7770. You only need larger video card ram when the resolution>1080P

You're going to struggle to run a 3930K and 2x 7970 on 850W - even more so if you're overclocking.

Single 3TB hard drive? Get 4 1TB and put them in RAID 10 - and then do the same with 128GB SSDs.

I'm definitely not an expert, but I can easily find many things wrong with just the two builds I've looked at (500$ and 3K).

I would consider having a look over your build again.

You wont struggle to run two 7970's the each card will only draw around 250W and a 3930k with a good 850 PSU even when overclocking. and who needs a 4 tbs of drive space? even 3 tb is A LOT. Plus why would you want to spend more money buying 4 1 tb and putting them in a raid configuration when the all that extra space will be used for games that you dont play as much as your main games and for media and programs that dont need to be put on the SSD, you dont need to have a super fast RAID configuration for basically your dump drive. Aslong as your OS and your main programs and a couple games are on a GOOD SSD you should be 100% FINE. I will revise the $500 build but the whole point of that build is to have a PC in the meantime until you can buy a better GPU. And i clearly stated these are not the absolute best builds for the money but they are very good.

I skimmed through the first few lines of your reply and I found a few thing wrong with that too.

The 7970 is a very hungry card under full load. It's supposed to be an ultimate gaming machine, so if people can afford a 3K computer I'm pretty sure they're going to be able to afford 3 monitors. In Crysis 3 in ultra settings @5760x1080 both cards will be under full load.

That's 607W for a single card.

The 3930K can easily pull 300W under load. Now tell me 850W is enough.


2ND - 4TB in RAID 10 will give you 2TB of storage - not 4. I can fill up 1TB of storage in a day, easily. A person that is going to be spending that amount of money on a computer is going to be using it for editing as well most likely. 5 minutes of screen recording @1080p was I think 10GB for me. Now, once converted, it will drop to 400MB, but you're still going to need the space to store the recording in the first place. I know people that download full 3D 1080P 7.1 uncoded bluray films - they can be up to 50GB per film - in fact I'm sure it could be more. Suddenly 2TB doesn't seem that much.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of this topic is great, and you should definitely keep it - just review some of the builds and ask people like Generation and R00t if they're good enough to be deemed the best build for that price.

But that's another problem with this build. You've only given a set lit of parts for each build - new parts and components are out all of the time; things change very quickly. It'd be best to list around as many different components in that certain price range as possible as some parts may become cheaper than others. A great example of this;

My mate has just completed his build, last night in fact and he was on a tight budget but wanted a good build that could run games in high settings. He started to ask what to get around November, but I told him to wait until he had the money - as he was being recommended a 7770 (which don't get me wrong, is a fantastic card but wouldn't quite cut it for his needs). He waited and then bam - price drop on the MSI 650 Ti power edition down to 109 GBP. Bought it and now he can play games in high/ultra no problem.

Again, it is a great ideas, jut a few things wrong with it. Don't take this the wrong way. If my last posts seemed a bit sh*tty then excuse me - it was around 12:30 in the morning and I was a bit tired.

ONCE AGAIN A GUIDE LINE FOR THE BUILDS i dont know what people are gna be doing with them storage is personal preference! its simply a guide line stop being an ignorant Sh*t i will change the PSU's i was preoccupied when doing the 3k build

If someone is dropping more than a thousand dollars into a build, I don't see why you wouldn't set up a couple drives in RAID 1 or even RAID 5 for backups? Why get a 3930k when a 3770K will perform nearly equally for much cheaper? Why 2 7970's with a 850W PSU? 850W is not enough for 2 7970's at full load along with a power-hungry cpu.

Check the builds, theyre updated on the PSU side of things, im not upgrading the drives, drives and drive space are not up to me i just put them there as a space holder, you can choose the amount of drive space you want idgaf
