Hi, my computer has recently been cutting out for no reason, it doesn't beep or have any visual indication that it will shut down, it just instantly and quietly powers down, i'm not sure whether it is a hardware or a software issue, but here are my specs:
AMD Athlon II X4 640 @ 3.00GHz
Gigabyte M68MT-S2P Motherboard
640GB WD Caviar HDD
MSI Radeon 6870 OC
8GB RAM
And here is an event log file in case any of you can make anything out of it. There are a lot of Errors in there, but i'm not sure which of them could cause a complete shut down.

Thanks for any help!

Hey, It looks like theres a lot of errors there relating to there being a disk controller error. What are you usually doing before the computer shuts down?

It could be anything really, usually i'm playing a game, the two times it's done it today i've been playing League of Legends and Saints Row 3. Although it's been known to do it while booting or just browsing YouTube or Facebook.

Seeing as Windows doesn't like to give many details when it fails its a bit difficult to pinpoint the issue straight away. Looking up that particular error code suggests it could be the hard drive SATA cabling as they are not rated highly for damage, a faulty drive, or it could be a firmware issue. Of course there could be alternative remedies but from what i can find, it may be a good idea to check your hard drive for errors, as one reason that error is produced is due to unstable sectors being present on a HDD.

Ah right, i have a few SATA cables lying around, would you suggest trying one of those? I mean if it came to it, getting a new hard drive wouldn't be a problem as they're cheap. But obviously i want to find out what's wrong before i go fixing what isn't broken

Firstly i would check the drive for errors by right clicking on the hdd in my computer then click the button "Check Drive for Errors" and see if it finds anything that way, then yeah i would either try another SATA cable or make sure both ends are secure.
