In my opinion, a Samsung Galaxy S4. I'm was also in the same situation as I'm ready to get a new contract and these are the two phones that I was deciding between, however to me, the S4 seems the better phone.

After looking at many reviews of the S4, it seems the only downsides are, the plastic casing (which to me is good because I prefer it as the battery is removable and it's still a good casing), and that the battery isn't amazing because of the large, highly detailed screen, but it's still just as good as any other smartphone with good features.

Downsides of the iPhone 5, you're limited to a lot of things, for example, needing iTunes to do a lot of stuff, and compared to the S4, once you buy the phone, that's it for storage, you can't just put a MicroSD card in, like the S4 allows. Also, some of the built in apps aren't that great, like Apple maps, however if you don't use your phone as a SatNav that shouldn't be an issue.

Good points of the S4, as I said before, you can put a MicroSD card in so you can have the internal storage + upto 64GB, the 5" screen is full HD and with the built in 13MP camera, you can get the best use out of the bold screen with amazing colours. The software is also really good, but it's a personal choice of iOS or Android, and like the iPhone 5 it has a good processing power, but to me, it seems the S4 is slightly more powerful.

iPhone 5 good points, large screen which is also HD with Apples retina display, it's extremely quick with the new A7 chip I believe, and with the metal chassis, allowing the phone to weigh only 112g compared to the S4's 130g, so it's a lot lighter.

However to me, the S4 seems the better choice, and also seems the best phone to have over 2+ years as the Android operating system is getting better and the amount of apps being made and downloaded is rapidly increasing.

Battery life is actually quite good on the S4 - lasts longer than the xperia Z that I have.

Here's a review on the S4:

I like the look of the S4, to the point where I look at the Xperia and think ew.

The plastic is a plus for me, as it still feels very premium, but at the same time it doesn't feel like it'll break.

Look at the old nokias - they were made out of plastic.

I would encourage you to try out each phone if possible. Ask one of your mates if you can borrow an iPhone 5 and then try the S4.

Go with the Iphone 5. The android operating system is crap. I've had androids for years and I finally switched to the Iphone 5 in January and I have been nothing but happy with it. The change from android to ios is like coming out of the stone age into the modern world.
