We can't just give you tips out of the blue without knowing what you want first. Its like giving someone a test on a subject they never studied, pointless.
If you are looking to do photo manipulations, then learn how to use opacity and layer styles to blend your images better, so it doesn't look badly done.
If you are making Backgrounds/Avatars/YTbackgrounds/Signatures then use stock images and layer styles, stock images are just plain images off of Google Images of anything and everything! (Fire, smoke, tractors, cars, people, bullets, stars, etc), they make it look a lot more professional when properely added and blended.
But the best tip anyone here will ever be able to give you my friend, is to be original. As you progress you should use real life or fantasy inspiration behind your work. Its easy to tell when someone has put emotion and life into an image over someone who just made something they saw on YouTube and took credit.
Try to never use Templates for manipulations/sigs/avatars/YTbackgrounds, EVER. If you want to improve there is no point in using other peoples work, for example:
"How will you ever learn to draw, when all you do is trace. How will you ever learn to sing, when all you do is lipsync. How will you ever progress in life, when you're one step behind other people. Be unique, because when you are unique, you prevail"
Good luck.
