no, they will not shut down the XBOX 360 servers.
yes maybe temporarily, but only to refurbish for 720.
Microsoft has invested WAYY to much money into this particular server to just cancel and start fresh. (would be the ideal thing to do in a way, bcuz of all the banned accounts.)
but that a thing they will shut down for. a clean up and to make the server compatible with 720 graphics, processor, etc,.
i see way to much post of this topic. so id make things a little more clear for people.

If they do start fresh where you can get any gamertag that would kinda be cool. It would suck for known clans like FaZe and OpTic though because fanboys would steal their gamertag.

They wont shutdown 360 servers at all. They will know that people are going to buy the 720 right away. Stupid topic.

Agree Fully with the guy above me. The xbox 720 will have some way to recover your 360 profile over and all your hard drive stuff.

The next Xbox will be able to recover your acct from the 360. After a few years when enough people have bought the next Xbox, Microsoft will shut down the 360s servers like the dud with the original Xbox.

Their not going to shutdown the servers, i'd imagine to reboot and refurbish existing servers. Microsoft care to much about the public than themselves unlike Sony.
Secondly, someone mentioned Xbox Live being free. They don't care that much, their going to charge for Xbox Live no matter what. We're paying for security and servers, so don't forget about that. Another reason they wouldn't close the servers down, money from previous Xbox owners.
Lastly, someone mentioned about the specifications being something similar to an PC. That's false, even though consoles are becoming more and more powerful. There's no-way that an console would compare to any PC spec not a good spec anyway. Maybe previous specifications back in 2010 maybe? I'd imagine they'll use AMD hardware because it's cheaper than Intel.
Hope this helps some of you's out, let's hope this Next Gen console compares to the Playstation 4.

Even If It Dont Compare To The Sony System, Im Still Going To Buy The Xbox. I Dont Really Like How The PS4 Sounds.

Same here got to many banned accounts fingers crossed for that
But I won't be buying the new XBox straight away no point wait for price to go down a little first ;-)
