I am thinking of getting an iPhone 5 and I have heard a few negative things about jailbreaking. I'm unsure whether I should Jailbreak it or not. I have a 3rd generation Ipod that I jailbroke a few years ago but ever since then, my ipod has been restarting all the time and apps have been crashing, if there is a risk that this will happen to an iPhone, then I dont want to do it. I will rep for a good answer.

It depends what would you do with it and stuff like that also do you break phones really easy if so then I say no because while jailbroken it voids the warranty

I have a jailbroken ipod. You should do your research, [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Then decide if you want to jailbreak, and if you do, be careful with what you use. Don't load it up with unecessary things like themes and huge tweaks that can make your device unstable.

Chances are if you're buying a new iPhone 5 it'll come with iOS 6.1.3
If that's the case, don't jailbreak. 6.1.3 currently only has a tethered jailbreak if I remember correctly.

6.1.3 cannot be tethered-jailbroken on iPhone 5.
If you buy an iPhone 5 now, you literally have 50/50 chance of it being jailbreakable. If it is not, be prepared to wait around 6 months until you can jailbreak it.
6.1.2 or below, your in business, full untethered jailbreak.
6.1.3 or above, no hope.

Gabardine wrote Chances are if you're buying a new iPhone 5 it'll come with iOS 6.1.3Yeah but I am talking about when the jailbreak for that comes out, I just dont want to break it or make it freeze all the time. Judging by what people are saying, I think I will just stay away from jailbreaking because I do not want to risk it.

Ok so the Dev team said they might not make a new untethered jailbreak for IOS 6 because all these update been only bug fixes and not nothing cool and new so they ain't wasting there Time but any ways they said IOS 7 will be better so you should wait ok
