This is a meaningless rant, considering it's only a minority of users who do it, maybe 2 or 3 a month, but it is still annoying when people post topics stating that they are currently overseas in the Middle East fighting.
Especially when the post looks like this:
Hey guys i'm currently overseas in Iraq fighting for America, I love the USA, SEMPER FI 0956(
Just no.
You can't even explain why this is just so wrong without sounding really angry.
If you were overseas in Iraq you wouldn't be thinking it's all guns, patriotism and blowing crap up for fun.
Nor do I think you would spend the time you have on the Internet posting on a gaming forum.
I think, unless these people who are posting these topics can prove that they are actually doing what they say they're doing, that these topics should be closed.
It, in my mind, makes real soldiers look bad and these people are taking credit and accepting the title of 'Hero' undeservingly.
Like I said, pointless rant that has been brewing for a long time, this isn't specifically related to that post in the GD right now, but it was the trigger.
I'm not saying that these people aren't really fighting for their country, they should be made to prove it somehow though, it's not fair on real soldiers.

I agree. Being in the Army isn't something to "Boast" about. It's something which you can be quietly proud of. These type's of people as you say are a shame to real soldiers, who fight for their families and country!
Not a pointless rant in my opinion!

I can understand this. Without proof, it seems more like an attention post. Not sure why it matters to actually make a whole post about that anyway. No offense, but not all members of the military are heroes anyway. Those posts seem like spam in my eyes. I respect those for defending the country of their choice, but not sure whole threads are needed to tell the world.

I agree with you in a way.I respect soldiers completely but one of the most disrespectful things is pretending to be one.

Thank you. I have met a few people outside of the internet who claimed they were in Navy Seals but didn't know half of the training I asked them about(Dead giveaway right there.) I plan on joining the Russian Army but what happens over there I'm keeping to myself and my unit/commanding officers.
Also @Novel thank you for making this topic. I saw about 2 weeks ago someone claiming they were in Iraq for 6 days and conducted some sort of drill that takes normally 4 weeks when he/she was on TTG posting all those 6 days(I don't know what the term is for the US Army but someone here on TTG who has done the drill called them out on their lie.) That is just one thing nobody should ever lie about, pretending to be someone who is risking their life when in reality the people lying about it are at home safe on their computer/video games/TV.

This is something that I hate as well.
It's incredibly disrespectful to take credit for being a soldier, especially since they are the people risking their lives for us to be here.
The thing I hate the most is the fact they are doing it to be respected, or to seem tough.

Just ignore it probably just a 12 year old wanting attention. As long as you don't give them any they will stop.
