1- No, the distance, even in scientific notation is greater
2- Pressure can build up, oxygen would be needed, if they get in any troublr they are screwed, because they can't race upwards. Why? Because going up to fast creates air bubbles in your blood and basically kills you.

I assume they would have used sonar but i may be wrong. but we don't need to go there to know how far away it is.
