What if our lives are just a long dream and when we die
we wake up from it all.

Could be, but then it wouldn't be a dream.
We define dreams and all words according to their place in our world, a dream would be different in a different place or level of consciousness.
If we woke up, this could be a perfectly normal experience to 'us' in another state.

Better yet... what if we are dreaming now, and when we went to sleep; we woke up?

Therefore the phase "I am living a dream" is valid and not a metaphor.

Most of us are dreaming some of us are here to open others eyes. And others don't care what happens around them and should be put to sleep forever.
