The 550 Ti is a decent performer and at that lower resolution, it should handle most games pretty well. What is your PC not doing now that you want it to be able to do after the upgrade?
Also, you're not going to want to SLI/Crossfire low-end cards.

Games like CoD black ops 1 on lower settings only gets like 20 to 40 frames. I'm trying to build this PC up, or just make a custom PC really.

Something's going wrong, then. The 550 Ti should be able to easily break 60 FPS in Black Ops at max settings.

If you have an onboard graphics card built in, you may be using that and not your actual 550ti

What he's saying is that you may not even be using the 550 Ti. It sounds like he's right. Make sure your monitor is plugged into the graphics card, not the motherboard. The best upgrade is the one you don't even have to make.
