I'd say around 500w would be sufficient if you get a decent one.

600w definitely.. because you might need more if you decide to upgrade something.

I said 500 watts for the same reason, he doesn't want to over kill it.

That doesn't happen anymore.. Most power supply units don't over-charge the motherboard and devices anymore.

I don't think it ever worked that way.

OP, you could run this PC on a quality 300w power supply, but I suggest a quality ~450w unit like the Antec VP-450, Corsair CX430, or XFX Pro 450.
