Shadowmere > Arvak ;) Arvak is better if you actually want to use a horse but you can boost several of your skill trees to 100 with Shadowmere.

You can do that with Arvak as well, every time you summon him your conjuration goes up, and then just like with any conjured being you can attack them and get your skills up then just summon a friendly one again. So Arvak would be better then Shadowmere.

You're crazy! You can boost your conjuration with Shadowmere to 100 by dual casting soul trap on him in like 20 minutes. You don't have to keep summoning him so you never have to stop boosting. What is better? Holding down dual casted flames until your destruction to 100 or stopping every 60 seconds to summon Arvak back? Attacking Shadowmere until your One-handed, Two-handed or Archery are to 100? Or having to stop every 60 seconds to summon Arvak?

Hmm which is better indeed? Having an undying creature start attacking you or having it so when the creature turns hostile you can replace it with a friendly one?

I'm afraid I don't understand what you are getting at. If you are implying that Shadowmere will turn against you for attacking him, he does not. If that is not what you are meaning, please elaborate.

Not only that angle, but Shadowmere can die thus meaning a 10 day wait to get him back, provided one is lucky enough to not get the no respawn glitch.
