Game Information

Release Date: October 25th, 2011
Platforms: PS3/XBOX 360
Developer/Publishers: Spike/Namco Bandai
Genre: Action/Fighting
Ratings: T

Synopsis

This game, is like any Dragon Ball Z game out there! It revolves around your fighting abilities. You can take on various enemies and unlock characters. Between the game you can take on every saga that happened in the show of dragon ball z (no gt or normal dragonball) It revolves around every character that you would've seen in the show. As you take on battles, you can get trophies or achievements. Are you ready for the battle of your life?

Game Modes

The game has two story modes, it can be quite confusing but they are long! In the normal story mode you can take on the world of dragon ball as Goku and friends. You will start off in the Raditz saga, and move on forward to the newer sagas ending at the buu saga. It sums up the whole television series within gameplay. It is a great story line and very fun.

There is also another story line in this game. It is called "Hero mode" with this function you can create your own saiyan. Which is your character and can go on with your own story. You are trying to save the world as the guy "Omega Shenron" has made a wish with the dragon balls. He turned the world into a living hell and you want to bring it back to normal! So you have to engage in all the battles you can unlocking moves, special abilities and bring the world back to peace. I personally prefer this mode over the original story mode.

You also can go into "battle mode" which allows you to battle your friends via two player, or with a computer. Either way is good and you can set there difficulty. It is good for practice if you can't complete something in the story mode.

Graphics

Well, this game has great graphics. You could compare it to Dragon Ball: Raging blast 2. They have improved since every game and are going to get better for the next. With the new graphics came new cut-scenes and new character models. They all look amazing and it is recommend that you check them out via youtube videos or by buying the game yourself. I find it to be perfect art for this style of game.

Gameplay

The game has some good game-play, but it is basically based on your own opinion. People preferred dragon ball raging blast 2, due to its free-roaming in the arena. As this one you have a limit to where you can walk to and how your moves work. The kai charging in this game isn't explained good enough as you have to do many combos to be able to use your super attacks/ultimate attacks, usually the charge button is up/down, but instead that just charges your dodge moves for when your enemy uses there ultimate or super attacks. If you can get use to this game-play the game is really fun and enjoyable. Especially when you play as your own character. You can unlock clothing/hair styles/moves/power-ups to strengthen your character making them the ultimate saiyan. Who wouldn't want to be a saiyan?

Recommended For..

This game is recommended for people who prefer fighting type games, so think of street fighter or mortal kombat. It is a game like that, but with there own powers and different story modes. If you are new to DBZ games it is also recommended as you can play through the story to see what happens within the dragon ball z show. Or if you are a hard-core dragon ball fan this is the game for you. Well they all are of course!

Controls

Well you may have guessed, the controllers are button-mashers. You don't need much skill for this game just ability to mash on your buttons. With that it's X/square to do a punch Y/triangle is for kicks. If you keep a combo on you can do a long combo. If you hold down X/square for a long period of time it will punch hard, or Y/triangle it will kick hard. Fairly easy if you are new to these type of games.

Final Ratings

Story: 10
Graphics: 10
Gameplay: 8
Overall Rating: 9.3

The reason why the rating is just 9.3 is it's because the game loses play value as you get further into it. Once you beat it you might not play it again. Be warned on that, it is a good game being able to make your own custom things but it's not the greatest once you beat.

This is a well done game review. I remember this game from my child hood! Awh, the memories. I had such a great childhood. There were games out there that I could play for hours. This was one of them. Great game. Great review.

Nice review Spencer, seems like it could have been a little more detailed though. Pretty cool that they give you the option of playing 2 different but long story modes. Making a character seems like the more fun out of the 2. Seems like a fun game.
