All depends on your skill. If you can constantly win matches with minimal losses then yeah you could make more than trading but then again if you're good at fixing the market you can make some easy money

Depending on the trading method, if you have a good one, then there's no way you can make more coins by playing games, even if you win them all.
However, not everyone can trade, so if you're struggling to trade correctly or whatever, then playing games in divisions can work well, but just not as well.

If you have around 100k, and you're trading with expensive players, you can earn around 2k per player (after EA tax), and if you sell them on for their cheapest buy now price, they'll usually sell within the first 10 minutes, with the odd few exceptions.
So you're making around (I would say) 4k roughly every 10-15 minutes, if you manage to get really good deals, while with playing games, you can earn up to around 550 coins per match (Which usually takes around 12 minutes), but then obviously there's winning divisions etc.

But honestly, I tried both, and I found that trading easily works better for making coins quicker. Personally. Other people may find it differently.
