So there have been a ton of predictions for who will make it to the 2010 playoffs and if they do how far will they go. So i am going to post a team profile and say the chances of making the playoffs out of 5 (5 being the greatest chance of making the playoffs) it will be arranged division wise so scroll down find your teams and other teams you are interested in. please feel free to leave a reply on anything i missed and anything you agree/disagree on.

MARINERS
The Mariners have an alright roster but only a few names stick out. They need a total makeover at the plate. As a team they have a total .236 batting average ranking 30th in the league. They rank 30th in the league in a offensive categories including Runs Batted in (424) HomeRuns (87) and Hits(1093).
They fair a little bit better in pitching but not that much rranking 10th in era with 3.86. 28th in strikeouts with 853. There closer has done a pretty good job this year with 34 saves ranking 12th in the league. and at 21 games back it is almost impossible to make the playoffs.

ATLETICS (68-70)
The Athletics have had a very productive year comparing to past years. Even though they are currently under 500 they are in second place only 7.5 back of the rangers. They really strided this year in pitching having the 4th best era in the big leagues. They have 910 strikeouts and 31 saves. The only thing setting apart there team and a playoff run is there offense.
There offense did not provide a lot of run support that the starting pitching deserves. They have a team batting average of .255 with 524 RBI's and 88 homeruns. In the offseason they have to work on the offensive part of the game and if that means moving some people then it must happen. if they can get some hitting i expect them to win the division next year.

ANGELS (66-73)

after having a great post season run last year they went into the total opposite direction. There pitching went down their batting average went down they dropped from being a playoff contender at the beginning of the year to a walkover for teams that have a series with them. They had a team batting average of .254 witch ranks 21st in the majors. They have 135 homeruns and 570 RBI's.
The pitching dropped to a team era of 4.32 witch is 23rd in the majors. the pitching staff needs a makeover and they need to find some consistent offensive weapons. Jared Weaver looks like the only bright star that is having a good year on the mound with a 3.14 era. 10 games back its going to be extremely hard to come back and win the division. post season rank

RANGERS (76-63)

The rangers are having one of the best years in franchise history they acquired big names in the trade deadline and have there team ready for both hitting and fielding. They dont have the best record but they have a good enough record to stride in their division. There stats are very sharp for being in the top 20 in the major leagues in every categorie. They are second in hits and batting average and 10th in homeruns with 138. They have a high era but with the run support that they get daily it is no problem scoring runs. there team era is 4.03 which is 15th in the bigs. With a commanding 7.5 game lead i dont see them having a problem with the playoffs.

TIGERS (70-70)
The Tigers have a better offesive game then pitching. Their offense is manly led by Miguel Cabrera. HE HAS A .333 batting average with 110 RBI's and a .624 slugging percentage. Their pitching is run by Justin Verlander leading all categories but Max Scherzer has the best ERA with a 3.51 on the season.
Detroit did excellent at home so far but the complete opposite on the road. They are currently 13 games back and with Miguel Cabrera day to day i dont think they can pull it off

ROYALS (57-82)
When i look at the stats the only thing that pops out at me is Batting average and hit. They have a team batting average of .273 which ranks 3rd in the bigs and they have 1311 hits which also ranks third in the majors. They have 96 home runs and 536 RBI's.
on the other hand pitching is what dragged them down. Their team era is above 5(5.07)and they rank 26th in strikeouts with 876. Billy Butler has had a great year for the royals with a batting average of .313 he has shown to be much of the Royal offense.
currently 25.5 games back it looks like they should focus on next year

TWINS (83-57)
The Twins have shown no signs of trouble on both pitching and hitting. They rank 1st in Batting average and hits. They are 5th in RBI's with 656 and have 123 home runs. Pitching wise they have a reasonable ERA with 3.85 and only have 888 strikeouts. With a current 5.5 up on the white sox they will still have to play sharp but it looks like they will hold on to their lead.

WHITESOX (77-62)
The Sox put together a pretty god team this year the only problem is how well the twin s are playing. Their pitchings is above average compared to other teams. They have a team ERA of 3.95 and 983 strikeouts. But their hitting turned it up a notch and have a team batting average of .270 ranking 5th in the bigs. They have a significant source of power with 156 home runs and they have 1272 hits. They or on the fringe of contending currently 5.5 back they are gaining slowly but the might run outt of time. of their last ten they are 7-3 but currently are on a 2 game losing streak. They need to kick it in to high gear to contend with the twins.

INDIANS (57-83)
The Indians need to sit down at the end of this year and think to themselve who should we keep and who should we get rid of because they need a total makeover on both pitching and hitting. Sin-Soo Choo has shown to be their best hitter but he has not put up career high number and Frausto Carmona has been their best pitcher but he would be a number 5 pitcher for any other team. They need to do something different in Cleveland because i dont see this baseball team doing anything in 3-4 years. Currently last and 26 games back in their division it would have to be a miracle to get in the playoffs.

BLUE JAYS (72-67)
The Blue Jays have survived pretty well this year with losing there ace Roy Halladay to the Phillies. While their pitching dropped they did exceptionally well hitting wise. But they are kind of an all or nothing team with a team batting avergage of .250 and have 1181 hits. But they show significant power with the most homeruns in the majors with 216. This is manly from Jose Bautista who has put up career high numbers this season and has always stayed hot. They have a very good farm system with good pitching and could step up next year as a contender but their division is to good with the Yankees and the Rays. Look for them next year just not this year being the 14.5 games back that they are.

RED SOX (78-62)
If you compare their record to other division they would be right in the hunt and or winning the division but the one they are in is the hardest division in the major leagues. With the powerhouse Yankees and the hot Rays (get it) they are barely survivng and need to puck up ground very fast. It looks like the Rays and Y ankees will just flip flop over the division and wildcard which makes it that much harder for the Red Sox. They just need to keep winning and hope for a Yankees/Rays collapse. They are second in RBI'S and Home Runs. Their overall bating average is very good with .268. and are 4th in the league in hits.Currently 9 games back it is going to be tough to make the playoffs.

YANKEES (87-53)
The Yankees have had an interesting season this year with the Rays. Their are contant division lead changes. The Yankees have a very good hitting roster and a pitching staff that fell short of expectations. As a team their batting average is .269 with 174 home runs and 1284 hits. This really helps their pitching because they will almost always get 4-5 runs a game. They have 998 strikeouts a 3.88 team era which ranks 11th in all of baseball. And puts less pressure on their always good closer Mariano Rivera. They are currently 2.5 game up on the Rays and it looks as though they are gaurenteed a spot in the plays whether be Division or wild card.

ORIOLES (53-87)
The Orioles need some major rebuilding after this terrible season that their going through. Nothing stands out stat wise for them and are above 20th in the league in all stats. The most wins by a starting pitcher is 9. That goes to show you the yeah that the Orioles are having. Currently 34 games back there is no way they are making the playoffs.

RAYS
The rays have had a great year keeping up and holding their own weight against the Yankees. Even if they don't win the division they have a great shot at the World Series. They don't have amazing stats with a terrible overall batting average which is .251. David Price has kept this great pitching staff in order. Having a team era of 3.84 which ranks 8th in the bigs. They have 1017 strikeouts and 47 saves. Being 2.5 games back of the division and 6.5 up on the Red Sox it is very likely that they will make an appearance on the playoffs
