You may wanna look into Objective C, and PHP.

Either way, ruby is a no-go for you.

I'd suggest taking the javascript course on [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] to help understand the basics of programming. After that, I'd strongly recommend an object-oriented language such as C# or Java. There are plenty of ways to learn, but books will always be the best. If you are an entirely new learner, I'd suggest Head First C# 2nd edition.

For simple apps, the best language would be C++. Because it is a very strong language for making apps that run fast and are the most professional looking and performing. Also at first C++ might be hard but then you can learn other languages easily if you know C++. And no I don't think that Ruby is good for making simple apps or any types of apps in general.
