For one, starting out a channel, you want to post a consistent amount of videos, like a scheduled upload, and upload videos that people look up to watch, it seems that edits are pretty popular, so I'd do those. Another thing that helps would be finding another youtuber, and working with them, like promote each other. But don't go around asking for people to promote you, because that doesn't exactly work well.
