I just got a new iphone 5 and as soon as I started using it, I was watching a video and the sound cut out. I tried turning it up but it said there were headphones plugged in when I didn't have any plugged in. I restarted my phone, plugged in headphones and unplugged them but I can't figure it out. I really don't want to go back to the apple store because I live very far away and I'd have to schedule an appointment etc. but if someone could help me figure it out I'd really appreciate it.

Try restoring the phone. If it is a software problem then this would fix it. If this doesn't fix it then it is a hardware problem and you would have to get it replaced. Hope I helped. PM me if you don't know how to restore.

Have you tried other headphones? It could be them rather than your iPhone.

Yes I've plugged in other headphones. I've plugged in 3 different headphones and it still doesn't work.

Restore the iPhone if the problem continues there is hardware failure so you would most likely have to get a new iphone.
