So guys, it finally happened. My hard drive died on me.
So now, being the PC noob I am, I have no idea what to look for.
My old hard drive was 1 TB, and that's the only thing I know about it. It's in there pretty good, and I don't wanna take the risk of damaging something else just trying to figure out the RPM or something.
I'm looking for something with the same amount of space, if not more, for under $100, or right around. My max would be $140. But that's stretching it out a lot.
The one in there at the moment looks pretty skinny as well, if that helps.
If anymore information is needed, I'll be around. Thanks for the help!

You could get a 2tb western digital green for $99, atleast thats what I got mine for. The speeds aren't as good as a black but it gets the job done for under $100.

And also, since I bought this thing pre-built, I don't have the Windows 7 installation CD.
But the sticker on the side has a product key. So if I downloaded a torrented version of Windows 7, then used my product key, would that work?

Yes, when it asks for the product key enter the one on that sticker.

Do you have a laptop or a desktop? When you say it's skinny, it makes me think you have a laptop.
I wouldn't suggest a boot drive with a low RPM, so I'd suggest these if you want a desktop drive:

Desktop, and yeah, I was looking at the same exact one, but I just found a 1 TB black on best buy for only $77. I think I'll be getting that.

If you play games or do video work (or anything else that requires moving data to/from the HDD) then a black might benefit you. If you don't do data intensive things then a blue will suffice.

The Blue actually has higher sequential speeds because it's a single-platter drive while the Black uses two platters. The Black has better burst speed so it's a better OS drive, but by far the most important difference is the warranty (2 vs 5-year). $77 is a fantastic price and the Blue is $67 on Amazon.

All on different systems, unfortunately, and presumably with different amounts of data on them as well as different controllers. Mine's almost full. I'll be sure to test the 1TB Blue I have coming in a few days.
